The Faculty of Pharmacy is a five-year program leading to a B.Sc. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences . The degree program is divided into general studies (which include language studies), subject studies (which include the Bachelor's thesis) and practical training .Students are required to complete 195 credit hours for graduation. The first year is considered to be a preparatory stage . Students take core pre-requisite courses along with university requirements to lighten the burden . These core courses , such as Analytical and organic chemistry and general and physical chemistry and introduction to pharmaceutics , do not differ so much from the chemistry courses students studied in high school .
IBeing a sophomore student , the courses will go into further depths to establish a strong base for more development in the students ' knowledge in medical sciences .
Third year is considered the transition stage in which they will start taking the bachelor's thesis including biosciences , pharmacology and microbiology courses which moves them from the theoretical basis to the practical application . Also students must finish their English language courses before going to senior first year or else they will have to take a light load until they finish it.
In the senior first year as graduation and exposure to real life approaches , students are being prepared for the final year of specialization in clinical pharmacy through the fully equipped laboratories and unique institutional pharmacy and drug information center .
The graduation year in which we offer a unique Excellency in clinical pharmacy specialization. MIU drug information center serves as a practical training facility for pharmacy students on answering drug related questions from patients , physicians and other health care professionals . Also it serves the community by providing drug information services in the form of newsletters as well as answers to specific questions . Through MIU's institutional pharmacy , students deal with prescriptions and gets acquainted with the possible drug interactions that may exist in any prescription . The pharmacy also teaches the students to be efficient and dependable counselors to their patients . A unique feature of the undergraduate program is the collaborative relationship with the Dental College. Senior students meet with patients to take a detailed medication history that becomes part of the patient's file . Students then provide patient consultation on their prescription and non- prescription medications . Back to the top
